Made out of: Copper-plated steel

Introduced: February 15th, 1971

Adorned on the front side with a portcullis draped in chains with a crown atop. On the reverse side is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

The one penny is currently the lowest value in the UK currency, since the half-penny was abolished in 1984.
